Another petrochemical plant will be built in Atyrau.

At the moment, the product being exported is produced by the Atyrau Oil Refinery (ANPZ). Paraxylene, with additional processing, serves as a raw material for the production of plastic containers, bottles, sports fabric and sintepon.

To develop the internal processing of paraxylene, KazMunayGas is considering a promising project for the production of terephthalic acid and polyethylene terephthalate (TFC/PET). The capacity of the future plant is planned to reach 735 thousand tons per year.

Previously KazMunaiGas and China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) has signed an agreement on the joint development of a preliminary feasibility study. Based on the results of the development of this document, a decision will be made on the further implementation of the project. If a positive investment decision is made, global licensors will be involved.
