On April 5, Chairman of the Board of JSC NC KazMunayGas Magzum Mirzagaliyev, Akim of Kyzylorda region Nurlybek Nalibayev and Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Nurken Sharbiyev took part in the planting of a saxaul on the dried bottom of the Aral Sea.
This project is being implemented in support of the environmental initiative of the head of state Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on greening the country.
"Saksaul is rightfully considered one of the symbols of Kazakhstan. For our people, this plant has since ancient times personified the ability to overcome obstacles and revive life. We take an active part in greening the regions of our presence. KMG has committed itself to planting more than 4 million saplings of saxaul on an area of 15 thousand hectares on the shallow bottom of the Aral Sea. Thus, our company strengthens its contribution to the green economy and nature conservation for future generations, and also shows our commitment to the principles of sustainable development," Magzum Mirzagaliyev said.

Saxaul is unique in that it creates a dune around itself, where up to four tons of sand can gather. In the seventh year, saxaul plantations on an area of 15 thousand hectares will be able to delay the removal of more than 15 thousand tons of salt, dust and sand into the air.
The planting of saxaul will also benefit the livestock of the region, since the grass in the saxaul forests grows and develops better, providing a good feed base for livestock.
The contractor of the project is the RSE "Republican Forest Breeding and Seed Center" of the Committee of Forestry and Wildlife of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
KazMunayGas Group regularly plants trees throughout the republic. In 2023 alone, KMG ensured the planting of about 40 thousand green spaces.
